Jason Whitmore letter : Marysville, Calif., to Ann H. Griggs, Windsor, N.Y. : ALS, 1855 Mar 19.

Letter, addressed to "cousin Hellen", in which Whitmore gives a negative description of life in California as a response to its reputation as a paradise. He writes that "times here are hard and dull. It is impossible to make a living," and declares, "Would to God that I had never heard of California." In addition, he discusses family matters and asks Hellen about her future plans.
